Insure yourself at home
As working practices have changed and more and more people work at home, it is vital to ensure that you have all of your insurances in order.
Ask yourself what tools you use for work. It could be a computer or hard drive. Where do you store this equipment? Is it in a your house or a backyard study, these are just a few of the things you need to consider when insuring yourself against theft or damage when working from home. You may even have to seek commercial insurance if you are working for yourself.
When considering your work from home insurance, you need to ensure your workspace includes any detached structure you may conduct your business in. Also, you may not have protection if someone is injured while visiting you at your home for a meeting, delivering a package, or files a lawsuit against you for work that you did for them out of your home.
All these scenarios can you get you into a large amount of trouble, so ask your provider about these changes to your work life and they will be able to advise you about what insurance you need. Some will add these insurances to your policy, while others will create a stand-alone insurance policy to suit your circumstance.
